What should you do if your website is not online?
This happens from time to time and there are a number of ways to check into this.
First of all - is your internet working?
Next, try accessing the site from your smart phone or tablet (that is NOT using wifi). Does this work? If it does, then there is most likely a problem in the network between your device and the hosting company.
To check where the problem is:
Open a command prompt (on Windows) by clicking Start and typing cmd then press enter. You will get a black box on your screen.
In the window type tracert yoursitename.com (use your site name.com or .org)
It will spit out a bunch of info listing each point on the internet it touches to get to your site.
The line at the top "Tracing route to... [numbers] should match the bottom line just above Trace complete.
If it does - then the trace worked. If the site is still down - contact support for your hosting company.
If it stops somewhere in the middle then a problem exists between you and the server that the site runs on.
Example:
C:\Windows\System32>tracert www.viskaconsulting.com
Tracing route to www.viskaconsulting.com [###.##.###.###]
